The Games Executive Summit Europe (GESE) is a think-tank initiative created in 2022 by influential leaders in the European games industry to reflect on the evolution of interactive entertainment and its role in society. The first edition, held in November 2022 on the island of Tenerife, brought together 50 multidisciplinary professionals. Dubbed a «Davos for the gaming industry» by some media, the event offered unique experiences and inspiring conversations, linking the social phenomenon of video games with European values, culture, and economy.
The summit’s goal was to establish a strategic forum that encourages participation from diverse fields within Europe, leading to insightful and intense discussions that have continued over time. The success of this initiative has paved the way for the next edition, which will be held in Nerja-Málaga, Spain, on October 16-19, 2024. It will feature continued support from Tenerife’s Summit group and renewed participation from European creators, founders, investors, and executives.
The theme for the upcoming Summit, «Back to a Better Place,» reflects a vision for the future of the European video game industry. This slogan symbolizes the collective ambition not just to recover from recent challenges but to emerge stronger and more resilient, aiming for a new era of excellence. It signifies a commitment to elevate the industry to new heights, marked by sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation. The summit envisions an industry that thrives responsibly and equitably, benefiting everyone involved—from developers to players, from indie studios to large corporations.
The theme also acknowledges the journey that began in Tenerife, laying the groundwork for current and future endeavors. As GESE reconvenes in the picturesque town of Nerja, it celebrates the progress made and the stronger community that has been built. The choice of Nerja, a location as enchanting as Tenerife, represents ongoing improvement and adaptation within Europe. The summit is a call to action for all stakeholders to contribute to an industry that is not only prosperous but also a force for positive change in society across Europe.
